Day 20, August 3, 2017 – Vapi to Surat.
Distance 120 kilometres.
Duration 9 hours.
Vapi is a border city of Gujarat located on the banks of river Damanganga and is surrounded by the Union territories of Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. As she bade goodbye to her hosts in Vapi who stocked her adequately with food and best wishes she pondered over the immense diversity in India in terms of culture, flora fauna weather the attitude and behaviour of the people..Today was the 20th day of Sunitas Solo Cycling Expedition from Kanyakumari to Khardungla. She had started from Vivekananda rock memorial on 15 July, 2017 cycling Northwards crossing the states of TamilNadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and now Gujarat. It all started in the mountains when she revisited a peak she had visited about 10 years back. She was apalled by the extent of environmental degradation she saw and she decided to put in her efforts towards this. Her cycling through the length of the country is an attempt to sensitise as many people as she can about their responsibility towards the environment.. During her journey she is planting saplings along her way and it being the monsoon season in India , rain gods are ensuring that they take roots. She is also the brand ambassador of “beti bachao beti padhao” mission- who can be a better role model than Sunita for the many young girls and parents who are seeing this young daughter of India undertake this “journey with a purpose“.
Sunita reached Surat after a 9 hour ride. A pleasant surprise awaited her as she was received by her proud father who decided to come all the way from Rewari to share some precious moments with his daughter. When he had heard of Sunitas accident on the way from Pune to Mumbai he was concerned about her further progress but today on seeing his daughter and her tough determined”never give up” look , he was reassured that his daughter was made of stuff not many are made of. ” Its the way my father has brought me up and instilled in me the ability to face challenges that I have been able to achieve . It wasn’t easy to raise money for my Everest expedition or the mountaineering courses I have undergone. But my father and mother made sure that I follow my heart and excel”, says Sunita Rewari to share some precious moments with his daughter.
