A journey with a purpose
Offroaders takes you from ‘ Kanyakumari to Khardungla’ with
Everester Sunita Singh Choken
on her Solo Cycling Expedition
4200 Kilometres of cycling across sea coasts, plateaus, challenging city roads, deserts, forests and snow clad mountainous terrain- This is what dreams are made of. While many others of her age are enjoying the comforts of their secure homes and families, this young girl from the small town Rewari of Haryana is out there battling the roads with a mission.
‘I would not have achieved what I have, had it not been for my parents’ says Sunita. Coming from the Gujjar community where life has a lot of restrictions specially for girls its incredible that she even dreamt of scaling the greatest heights. She has the distinction of being the youngest girl from Haryana to climb the Mount Everest at the age of 25 years. As she arduously cycles her way across India she wants to spread awareness about ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ (Save the girl child. Educate the girl child) campaign and the evils of child marriage highlighting the need to support education of girls and the right to equal opportunity for them.
Recipient of the ‘Nari Shakti Award 2016’ from the President of India H’ble Pranab Mukherjee Sunita is also the brand ambassador of Haryana Government for the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign. With no one sponsoring this expedition decided to embark on this Herculean journey all alone with whatever resources she had. Omian Sangha an NGO working for social issue happened to hear of this and raised some funds to contribute to the cause. They are now the chief sponsors of this expedition. An NGO Sankalp Taru came forward to supply her with saplings at various cities along her route which Sunita will plant with 5 girls as a symbol of the need to protect, save, nurture and grow our girls and the environment
Follow Offroadersblog with daily updates as we will be covering this formidable inspirational journey from the seas of Kanyakumari to the highest motorable pass of Khardungla- A story of grit and determination
Special thanks to the “Omni Sangha” NGO for supporting this noble mission.
